TurmeriX®| What is an Antioxidant?

Join us for a series of articles as we deep dive into individual health benefits the TurmeriX® blend may provide.

Let’s understand better some of the ailments that surround us all and try to feel better with the use of some natural sources.

We all aspire to live our best life, pain-free, and full of energy!

So … what is an Antioxidant?

Antioxidants are molecules that fight free radicals.

Free radicals are unstable molecules created by the body, either from normal metabolic processes or from external sources such as exposure to X-rays, ozone, cigarette smoking, air pollutants. They cause damage to the body cells and may trigger many human diseases.

An antioxidant is stable enough to donate an electron to a free radical and neutralize it, thus reducing its capacity to damage.

Some antioxidants are created during normal metabolism by our human body. Other lighter antioxidants must be supplied by our diet.

What may an Antioxidant help with?

An imbalanced defense mechanism of antioxidants or overproduction of free radicals can lead to oxidative stress. It is a harmful activity that can negatively affect several cellular structures, such as membranes, lipids, proteins, and DNA.

Oxidation is a normal process that takes place in our body. Oxidative stress, on the other hand, may accelerate the aging process and may contribute to the development of ailments or diseases overtime.

Therefore, it is always a good idea to add antioxidants to our diet. It may prevent or help with disorders like diabetes, inflammatory conditions (such as rheumatoid arthritis), hypertension, neurodegenerative diseases, age-related macular degeneration. …

What foods contain Antioxidants?

Antioxidants can be found in some dietary food compounds. They include the nutrient antioxidants vitamins A, C, and E and some minerals like copper, zinc, and selenium.

Researcher's also mention non-nutrient antioxidants that involve phytochemicals (from plants), that may be even more efficient.

Fruits and vegetables are a rich source of antioxidants: leeks, onion, garlic, grapes, berries, apricots, spinach, pumpkin, citrus fruit, mangoes- just to name a few.

Other foods including nuts, whole grains, dark chocolate and meat/fish can be cited as well.

Our TurmeriX® blend includes: turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, fennel, ascorbic acid, and other ingredients that are considered having antioxidant properties.

Trying to get into a healthy routine with a good diet may help reduce oxidative stress. It is important to try to maintain a good body weight, exercise regularly, and incorporate a diet rich in fruit and vegetables for optimal healthy living.
