Welcome back to our series of articles as we deep dive into the individual ingredients that make up the TurmeriX® blend. Each ingredient was chosen to be part of the blend for its unique individual properties and for its complementary synergy when mixed with other powerful natural ingredients. One ingredient on its own cannot do it all, but when taken together that is where the effectiveness happens!

This week our in-depth look is at Cinnamon!

Cinnamon is one of the most important spices used daily by people all over the world and contains many powerful medicinal properties.

So… What is Cinnamon?

This spice comes from the inner layer of bark derived from dozens of varieties of evergreen trees.

Cinnamon has been used in Ayurvedic medicine, since ancient times to treat respiratory, digestive problems, and for food flavoring. It consists of a variety of resinous compounds, and numerous essential oils. Essential oils have been used in aromatherapy for multiple benefits, such as easing menstrual cramps.

Cinnamon as an Antioxidant

Antioxidants are molecules that fight free radicals in your body.

Studies have shown that cinnamon essential oils have "very powerful" antioxidant activities in vitro.

It appears cinnamon wields antioxidant protection through its ability to activate the antioxidant enzymes. Thanks to this antioxidant proprieties, cinnamon may boost brain function and help defend against the development of neurological disorders such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.

Besides, the cinnamon extract has been proved so effective in reducing the oxidation that it could even be used in place of synthetic antioxidants in food preparations.

Cinnamon as an Antimicrobial Compound

Cinnamon has been proven to fight fungal, bacterial, and viral elements.

The antibacterial activity of cinnamon is due to bioactive phytochemicals such as cinnamaldehyde and eugenol.

Thanks to many research studies, it has been concluded that cinnamon bark extract and essential oils could be considered a valuable support in the treatment of infection. They may contribute to the development of potential antimicrobial agents against MRSA bacteria (infection caused by a type of staph bacteria that has become resistant to many of the antibiotics used to treat ordinary staph infections). They also look efficient against oral cavity infections, against Staphylococcus epidermidis (acne causing bacteria) or against bacterial vaginosis (that could be responsible for pelvic inflammations).

Researchers have found potential in cinnamon oil to be used as an alternative treatment for patients with candidiasis. (A fungal infection caused by yeasts in the genus Candida.)

A preliminary study out of Touro College in New York suggests that cinnamon may possess antiviral effects and help prevent infection in humans. “The results validates our belief that a diet that includes a tablespoon of cinnamon once or twice a day can be effective in eliminating or preventing viruses from infecting humans and causing sickness, such as colds, flu, and even herpes,” Dr. Milton Schiffenbauer said.

Cinnamon as a Blood Sugar Reducer

Few studies have shown that cinnamon might have some blood-sugar-lowering properties and could be effective on people carrying the type 2 diabetes disease. Indeed, cinnamon contains hydroxychalcone and similar chemicals that seem to improve insulin sensitivity.

Cinnamon as an Anti-inflammatory

Some findings demonstrated that cinnamon and its components have excellent anti-inflammatory activities and may be useful in the treatment of age-related inflammatory conditions. Thus, it is known to have great potential to be used as a source for natural health products.

Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices in the world. It is a delicious and powerful spice found in every household and has many health-promoting properties. Even today, it is still considered one of the healthiest spices on earth. Cinnamon is a natural inclusion into the TurmeriX® blend with all its amazing healthy benefits!
